EnergySolutions announced today that it has completed the nearly two-year process for its EnergySolutions subsidiary, TMI-2 Solutions, to acquire the Three Mile Island Unit-2 Nuclear Power Plant (TMI-2), from subsidiaries of FirstEnergy Corp. The purpose of this sale is to complete the decommissioning process of the facility, located in Londonderry, Pennsylvania.

2019
2037
TMI-2 remains in PDMS for several years while planning continues
Safely store damaged fuel in Interim Waste Storage Facility
Terminate license (approximately 2037)
It is estimated after we transition from post-defueling monitored storage to physical decommissioning activity, it will take about 8 years to remove residual damaged fuel and perform additional decontamination work to begin the next decommissioning phase. We estimate an additional 8 years to dismantle the plant. At this point we expect the entire project to be completed in 2037, 17 years earlier than the current schedule.
